Michael Machado, Independent for California 40th Assembly District 2012
The 40th Assembly District needs an Assemblyman that doesn’t spout empty, vacuous rhetoric like “Sacramento needs a good dose of conservative common sense” and “I believe in limited government, lower taxes, family values and a tough crackdown on illegal immigration.”
I will be running for the 40th Assembly District in the 2012 Election. Issues that I feel are important are:
California becoming the #1 education state again. No child left behind is a failure. Its practical translation was to make education only about passing standardized tests. We need to reinvest in education at both the K-12 and at the university levels. We did to emphasize instruction in Mathematics and the Sciences and de-emphasize standardized tests. We need to emphasize the Arts, Music and Physical Education for all students and de-emphasize spending on organized sports that benefit only a few students.
California needs to stabilize taxes and spending. When the economy is booming and revenues poor in we act as if the party will never in. When our economy experiences an economic downturn, we cry like orphans for new taxes to pay the bills. What we need are reasonable, equitable tax rates that adjust in response to economic indicators. When the economy is in an up cycle, rates adjust down and when in a down cycle then they adjust up. Financial planning for our State then becomes easier when we can guarantee a steady revenue stream.

- All California citizens have the right to be free from excessive and/or inequitable taxes.
